Explore the WW1 Museum – Open!

Hands on History is every Saturday at 11am. The kids activity is open to the public to handle REAL World War 1 artifacts. You can also explore the museum daily. Included in museum admission is a ticket to climb the top of Liberty Memorial Tower.

The Ceramic Cafe studio is open all summer long for your kids to create unique works of art. They always welcome walk-ins and artists of all ages, so all families are welcome to stop in. Teach your Kid Swim Lessons

Summer Shows at Ironwoods Park

Free cultural events are provided by the City of Leawood all Summer long! Check out the Kids Summer Programs every Tuesday in June at 9:30 am at Ironwoods Amphitheater or Lodge, 147th & Mission Road, Leawood, KS

Popsicles in the Park

This summer event series will visit 8 different Independence, MO parks with free popsicles throughout the summer. Check it out to find a park near you!

Oxford Schoolhouse at Ironwoods Park

Oxford School is one of the oldest schools in the state of Kansas. The school was moved from its original location at 135th and Mission Road in March 2003 for families to come & explore the history at Ironwoods Park.

You can schedule a fun educational program from kids any day of the week! The fee is $3/child, but include a lot of fun. A costumed teacher will lead the kids in:

  • Hands-on experience sitting in old fashioned desks, writing on slates.
  • Discussions on life a century ago.
  • Using historic material and McGuffey’s readers.
  • Playing period-specific games.
  • Making a historic craft

FREE Kids Night Out at Mahaffie Stage Coach

Family Fun Nights offer historic-themed summer activities for kids every Thursday evening in June and July. For activity tickets, you only pay $1. This is a fantastic cheap summer activity for kids to enjoy throughout the summer.

Dates and Themes:

They also offer The Frankie & Ella program on Wednesdays and Thursdays in June and July. Visitors of all ages will experience childhood in the 1860s & 1870s. Cool right?

ScreenPLAY at B&B Theatres:

The Lee’s Summit 16 and Shawnee 18 Theaters are dedicated to helping families with small children feel comfortable at the movie theater. Both locations provide theaters with play gyms inside for your young child to play before the movie!

…It’s genius right?

Theaters have a screen-side play area for toddlers, and a full-size climbing playground for kids. B&B Theaters invites guests to arrive 20 minutes before showtime for fun and play, while music and other entertainment is onscreen. After the twenty minute play block is over, guests will take their seats and the lights will go down for a kid-friendly feature. Younger movie-lovers (recommended age 2-8) can enjoy B&B like never before. 🙂
