It is opening day at the Crown Center Ice Terrace, which means free skating!

Kansas City’s only public outdoor ice skating rink opens for its 46th season of great skating fun. Liberty Memorial Peace & Remembrance Projections

Friday, November 2nd to Sunday, November 11th

Nightly at 7:00 pm

The Liberty Memorial will be lit up with poppies to recognize the roughly 9 million soldiers who died in the first world war. Visit the show nightly at 7 pm. This will mark the centennial of the Armistice that ended the world war on the Western front.

The entire front of the Liberty Memorial along Pershing Road will be lit up in remembrance of those we lost.

It is International Red Panda Day, so there will be kids activities set up in the Kansas City Zoo lobby. Kids will become Red Panda Rangers while learning about these animals! If kids complete 3 or more activities, they receive a Red Panda Badge. They will even make their own red panda craft.

Red panda Zookeepers will host a chat at noon and engage the pandas with enrichment items at 2.

It is also Military Appreciation Weekend this weekend! All military members with a valid ID get into the zoo for FREE. (Retired, veterans, active duty, reserve…)

Each year, the William Baker Festival singers raise funds and awareness for organizations to help the less fortunate in Kansas City. This year, The Jerusalem Farm was chosen as the 2018 organization. Decorate your bikes with lights at ride bikes on a 4.5-mile ride through TONS of holiday lights and displays at Jackson County Christmas in the Park! Helmets & bike lights are required to participate in the event. There will be prizes for the best-decorated bike & best-dressed individual at 6:00 pm. There will be free coffee, hot chocolate, & live music at the finish line. Come take photos with Santa at the Bicycle Shack too!

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

This is a free holiday event for the whole family. Watch the 100 foot Christmas tree glow at the annual holiday celebration. Mayor Sly James will be the one to flip the light switch and turn the tree to a glowing masterpiece. It is one of the nation’s tallest trees, so you definitely don’t want to miss this!

The tree will stay lit throughout the holiday season, so if you can’t make the event you can still come visit through the season.

 

Gingerbread House Making
