First Man Movie Review
First Man Movie Review
RUNNING TIME: 2 hours 16 minutes
Have you ever seen something so clear, so honest, so real…? And still didn’t know what to think? Well, that was me when I walked out of the theater last week after viewing First Man.
If you haven’t seen or heard of this movie, it stars the talentedly handsome Ryan Gosling.
…Pause for swooning.
The First Man Storyline
Gosling stars as Neil Armstrong, the first man to step foot on the moon.
While this film casts other celebs that you can’t quite figure out where you’ve seen them from, each portrays their character fairly well.
This film is lengthy, but it keeps you engaged.
From the moment the film started, I kept asking myself what was going to come next? What would be the next hurdle he had to get over? Who is about to die?
I had so many plaguing questions.
I couldn’t stop asking myself.
First Man is filmed in a home movie style. While you can never see who is behind the camera, you are in the first person perspective.
I did love the fact that this was completely different from most space movies. The director, Damien Chazelle, was able to capture the personal life and struggle of Armstrong in an intense and saddening way.
I don’t know much about Armstrong but if the film is anything like his real life…it is truly heartbreaking!
The Verdict of First Man?
Outside of the directing and the intensity of an extraordinary man’s life and ordinary family, I have no clue if I like this film or not. I don’t know if it was the fact that they were able to keep me sucked in for so long, or if it was something else.
Out the entire audience, most seemed to love it and two people fell asleep. Clearly, I’m not the only one confused lol.
I am sorry if this review was little to no help for you, the best advice I can honestly give you is “try it, you might like it”.
